MT Industry going downhill -- Nuance monopoly
#11
hi guys
thanks a lot for your input on the above.
i know that the scene of US transcription is not good. reasons are many some of which i dont know. i work for a US mt company which i dont think is related to nuance in any way although i use editscript platform (ver 9.0) to do my work. reason being payments. while nuance pays 0.40 to 0.50 if i pend all the files non dsp the company i work for pays 0.75 for pending all files non dsp and 10 p more for dsp (pending for blanks only). i presently get between 0.95 and 1.05 depending on the number of files i pend. the payments for the last more than 5 years have been spot on and always more than what i expected unlike nuance. i worked only 3 months for nuance (then called focus) in 2009 and the experience was awful to say the least. the story is long but to cut it short a) they are never true to their word and b) they are not honest with payments. of course this is a problem with most mt companies but nuance (focus as i know) tops the list. i have numerous incidents to quote to substantiate my claim.
however my present company also of late (since 2015 end) is having some problems. i dont know whether it is specific to me or with the others as well. the number of files in the queue is very less (sometimes none) and the bosses are insisting on night shifts. i have been doing night shifts since more than a year and i think it is already affecting my health. i am 45 going to be 46 and have never done night shifts before march 2016. i understand because i dont get good sleep these days.
i have gone through the suggestions provided above and i will surely try this scribie option.
please can anyone of you friends tell me something about UK transcription? what is the future of UK transcription in india?? is it as bad as US transcription or will it last for another say 5-10 years???
your replies are awaited.
you can call me at 09900362047 or email sensmt@gmail.com
