Very interesting discussion and to where MT is headed. There must be a way to record online the doctor's examination of a patient, store it on a cloud, and then play back the same for filling in the blanks/ proofing  which will be there when he/she is transcribing on real time basis. This would be when the doc is idling.

Even if a virtual medical scribe is doing one particular doctor's records he may get used to that doctor's speech and conversations it is very difficult task why because the patients are not the same. Patients are different each time conversation goes on between patient and doctor while examining the patient, taking history etc. Virtual medical scribe find it difficult to understand the patient's conversation with doctor. So this job does not suit properly for any foreign nationals other than native American English speakers.

If doctor and patient conversation and examination details are recorded and then made available to the scribe then there is no need to work on real time (that is night time in India while it is daytime in USA) and that work can be done at daytime in India. Anyhow this job seems very difficult due to the above-mentioned reason. After having 7 years experience in MT field I am unable to understand the doctor patient conversation even up to 25% of doctor to doctor conversation. Sometimes we get while doing transcription some patient-doctor conversation or doctor-doctor conversation when the doctors forget to switch off the recorder. Based on hearing this type of conversation experience I am saying this.

I would say that this is an unnecessary panic that is created by anand33.  We heard of ASR around 10 or 12 years ago with the Dragon Software and even now there are a lot of clients who prefer physical transcription and DU and even in the ASR, there are a lot of mistakes which are critical to patient care, which the QA has to correct.  So all this stuff about virtual scribe will take another 15 or 20 years to come by because it is a really foolhardy idea and the doctors are aware that they are hazarding patient care if they let any xyz transcribe a medical report based on a doctor-patient conversation alone.  and even if it is stored in the Cloud, as someone has commented, it will take a lot of production time and no MT is a fool to sit the whole day listening to the conversation to type a single report..unless the client is ready to pay Rs. 5000 per report. and I am surely aware that the providers line Mmodal or whoever are also aware that are handling useless stuff.  So, the mts or DUs who are doing a good work now need not panic and concentrate on earning more lines because this idea will not materialize to its full extent for another decade or two and even then there will be a lot of glitches.  So live in the present and dont panic thinking about the future.... As a thought aside, I would like to ask all the mts who have participated in this conversation.... which job is stable in this present scenario?  you might have heard that Microsoft has laid of thousands of employees and Qualcom is about to throw out a few thousands... and yahoo has already thrown out many long ago ...and toyota India has thrown out many .....and the thousands who are laid off by IT companies because their performance did not meet the benchmark.....this is about the "prestigious" companies that we dream to join.... don't even try to imagine the lakhs of people rendered unemployed because of shutdown of smalltime companies... You are lucky to have a job, so respect your job and thank God that you are still employed

Nice observation.

Now with the consent of the members should we give this entire thing a decent burial? I realize that the main subject put up by lloydssolutions was requirement for HBTs and QAs and has meandered off into outer space. I do not know what others think but I think this has been a very informative and engrossing thread. Before it becomes as exciting as the daily parliamentary fights we observe between various political parties, maybe we should move on to other topics? Just a thought.....

virtual medical scribe is not a distant thing. It has already started in India. In naukri.com already requirement for virtual medical scribe is coming. By searching "medical scribe" in naukri.com one can find. Salary is 35,000 to 42,000/month. Complete night time job.

Those who are entering into the field of medical transcription without knowing the real facts it is our duty (of course moral duty) to make aware of the real facts of medical transcription so that they can take some other decent and daytime occupational opportunities rather than working at night which is now made mandatory in medical transcription field especially with US medical transcription. This is not a rewarding job just only a compulsion due to one or the other reasons. So it is our moral duty (if we have some!) to make aware the new entrants into the field unknowingly.

I think this forum is not only for the posting of jobs. It is a forum for discussion also. MTs can without hesitation make here discussions relating to their field. That is called democracy. Discussions make democracy lively.

Night time jobs are not considered good jobs by the society. For example girls hesitate or refuse to marry night shift employees. I know some bachelors suffering with this problem. For this reason they changed their company and got day time jobs and then got married. For married people also their spouses and children find it irritating and uncomfortable their husbands sleeping all the time day and not taking proper food due to their sleep and not accompanying them for any of their activities. So I think night time jobs are not good jobs whatever the salary be.

The problem here is there are lakhs of people in MT profession who are already burdened in their daily life by quality checks, low payments, meeting their financial needs.. so in this scenario it does not help when one from our own starts lambasting about the future of MT... I respect your intentions about warning new people from joining this industry, but please consider the multitudes already in this profession, the MTs who are training to be Editors and the Editors who are training to be QA ,etc... they are working hard in hopes that they will one day end up getting a decent salary and lead a better life, which I am 200% sure they will achieve if they are genuinely hardworking and seek a good company to work for.... it is these people who start getting disappointed and suddenly start to lag behind in their hardwork just because of some news, which is not publicized to its full extent... and the result is they will shunt about between different kinds of jobs and end up with no job and personal financial destruction. .. So, my advice to MTs is there is no shortcut to hardwork and even if this technology comes into existence, you can always jump to allied professions like medical coding or insurance or things like that which are rapidly picking up.

Vishnu told this is a war of words between Anand33 and Lloydssolutions. This is not a war of words but a healthy discussion going on regarding the present trends in the MT industry. The comments that we posted are not for parliamentary fights but based on the latest updates happening in this industry so that everybody becomes aware of what's going on and take informed decisions.

Siby, the Scribe will be transcribing multiple reports on a single day when doing a real time transcription because the doctor will be seeing multiple patients in a day. So it is not just one report that the Scribe will be doing. All your other comments are well said and valid. It is good to have healthy discussions.

Thank you,
Lloyds Solutions
